Hi,

When I think of October, I think of transition. The mornings grow cooler, the evenings stretch a little longer, and the air begins to smell like endings and beginnings all at once.

It’s always been a tender month for me. A month where I feel like I’m holding my breath less, where the noise of summer quiets just enough for me to hear my own thoughts. And maybe that’s why I wrote this — not as a wish for myself, but as a hope for anyone carrying more than they say out loud.

Poem:

A Hope for October

I hope October is kind to you.

Not just softer than September,

but soft in all the ways you need.

I hope it’s not a month of survival,

but one of peace, warmth, and steady joy.

I hope the mornings feel easier,

and the nights aren’t so heavy.

I hope you find yourself smiling

for no reason other than the quiet returning to your chest.

I hope you don’t have to search so hard

for love, for clarity, for belonging.

I hope it finds you first.

In the way someone looks at you,

in the way your body finally exhales,

in the way the days begin to feel like home again.

Let October be gentle with your heart.

Let it be light on lessons and rich in blessings.

Let it be the month where healing deepens,

where things slowly align,

and where you’re reminded that life can be good,

not just bearable.

You deserve a soft October.

Not someday—

this one.

I like to think of poems like this as little anchors, something you can return to when the month feels heavier than you hoped. Even if life doesn’t soften right away, the intention of wanting it to be softer is already a kind of healing.
